A bit about me

cropped-dsc_10481.jpgThanks for joining me!

I have come to the conclusion that I am a very ordinary person and that is fine by me. I’m not the mover and shaker my 21 year old self longed to be. I haven’t changed the world and I probably never will, despite wearing a ring that says ‘be the change you wish to see in the world’. I’m unlikely to stand out in a crowd or at a party. I’m not socially gifted, a brilliant thinker, legendary leader or stunningly beautiful and am generally pretty unmemorable. I’m just me.

So why start a blog? Well, why not? It’ s an idea I’ve toyed with for a while and have decided it is time for action. I don’t claim to have all the answers or to be an expert on anything much. This will be a carefully curated record of selected moments, discoveries and projects from my ordinary everyday life. Hopefully some of these snippets will resonate with and help others in some small way. After all, us ordinary women need to stick together and support each other.

So, who am I? I’m a forty something extroverted introvert, which basically means I love my own company but soon get lonely. I’ve been married for way longer than I haven’t. My two adult children are studying at university and no longer living at home. This month, for the first time, I find myself an empty nester and unemployed. I am transitioning to new roles and a new identity. However, some things won’t change. I always seek to be kind and to find the best in people and situations. I am real, honest and loyal. I expect a lot of myself, work hard at the task at hand and can sometimes have obsessive tendencies.

I have always enjoyed writing but this is my first attempt in a public forum on a personal level. I am old school and prefer to write, cross out and edit on paper rather than committing my words to the screen, so this blog sees me leaving several comfort zones behind.

If you choose to read my blog, you’ll soon discover just how ordinary I am. But in a world where everyone is striving to be special and grabbing at the chance to be a minor celebrity, maybe that in itself is, in fact, extraordinary. There is much to be said for taking pride in doing ordinary things well and thus changing our own world in tiny ways everyday. I think that can be pretty special and I invite you to join me on this journey.

  1. […] Earlier this month, this blog quietly reached the first anniversary, quietly sneaking past like someone who doesn’t want anyone to know it’s their birthday. Believe me, this was quite accidental and I really did want to celebrate the first year of Ordinarily Extraordinary Anna. I’ve loved writing again and posting regularly in this space and am grateful for each and every reader. This is post 78 since I started this little blog back in early February last year, with a bit about me.  […]

  2. An Extroverted Introvert is called a Social Introvert! Welcome to WordPress, hun 😀 I look forward to reading more of your posts ❤ Sincerely, another ridiculously ordinary person who's perfectly fine with being ordinary thank you very much- and having a blog about how boring she really is.

  3. I think it’s pretty extraordinary to start a blog…..and it takes someone pretty special to create two high achieving kids at uni….so this is just a recalibration..a new path. Thanks for inviting us along for the ride!
